I haven't written much cuz not much has happened. We haven't had any doctor's appointments or major baby developments, I haven't taken any classes. The only thing that has happened is that I either lost or had stolen my wallet. I'm still trying to figure out which. If that's ever happened to you, then you know it means a round of phone calls to credit card companies, getting license and social security card reissued, and a whole bunch of other really annoying tasks that I'm still working on.
I added a new page to the website today. It's on Search Terms. Might make for some interesting reading. :)
Our farm is just growing by leaps and bounds! The broody hen we have has finally hatched all of her eggs. She hatched 10, and 8 have survived. They were housed in that infamous back bathroom but have now been moved into a separate enclosure in the chicken house. They don't have a run yet, but they're so young I doubt they need one. It's on the list of "to do&", though.
Also, Casper had her kittens! I'll get pics up as soon as I can, but she birthed 6 hungry, greedy, wiggly little kittens last night in the rafters right above the back bathroom. That area must be the maternity ward! I'll have to keep that in mind if I go into labor too soon at home. ;-)
The duckies are growing like little weeds and have already quadrupled in size in two weeks. They managed to scarf down 50 pounds of food in those two weeks so it's not all that surprising. That's about all the news there is to report. If you're keeping track, we're now up to 94 souls on this little farm. :)
We had another doctor's visit on Tuesday. If you want to read about it, be sure to check the Baby Page. Also, we now have baby duckies!! They arrived a little over a week ago. When I get a chance, I'm going to update the "Our Family" page and you'll see pictures of the little cuties. They're growing like little weeds, too, already doubling in size from when they got here.
As of this morning, we have new baby chicks! Momma Chicken hatched at least 3 so far. The other hens were nagging her while she was setting (even climbing into the nest with her) so we relocated the chicken nursery to the spare bathroom. Last time we went in there we saw 3 very, very new baby chicks. Don't know how many we'll get in all, but that's at least a start.
I've also started volunteering at the school. I was there all day today, spending most of my time with the first grade class. They're so cool! Mr. Anderson (the first grade teacher) has informed me that I can come and help whenever I get the urge to. He's also planning a field trip for them to our farm some time next week. I knew we were amassing all these critters for SOMETHING. lol. I went to the meeting of the Endicott Community Days planning board last night. I signed up to sponsor the kiddy carnival. I'm hoping that doesn't turn out to be a mistake. :) If you have any ideas for events or prizes or something, please email me. Well, I guess that's about it for now. Saturday I'm going to be at the quilt shop for an all-day Quilt-a-Thon for charity. I'm really looking forward to that. In the meantime, I have another quilt I need to bind so I can send it off to a friend of mine for her son. I've got lots of updating to do on this page, but it's all going to have to wait. Other things are taking priority at the moment.
My, but it HAS been a busy few days. Let's see.. well, I went to watch part of the basketball playoffs for this area over in Pullman last Friday. St. John-Endicott's boys team made it to the state playoffs, along with several other teams from Whitman County. SJE plays tonight, and if they win, they play for the championship title tomorrow. If they win, I'm going to go to Spokane and watch the final game. :)
Hm, well, Monday we had baby class again. The first hour was spent with Dr. Mellor telling us about pain medications you could use and what the effects of each were on the mom & the baby. I'm pretty much hoping I can get by without needing anything at all, and I'm going to try. But don't be surprised if I report needing an epidural. :) The second hour, we went to see the birthing room. Someone had just had a baby that day, so we couldn't see the recovery room, but that's ok. Anyway, it looks reasonably comfortable so we shouldn't have any problems with the room. Bed's a little small, but aren't they all?
Tuesday, I went to go run some errands in Colfax, then came back to Endicott to vote. Then, I went over to the Endicott School to sign up to be a volunteer. I filled out the volunteer forms and watched the orientation video. When I went to turn my forms in, they asked if I might be interested in substitute teaching sometime. I said Sure, why not, so they gave me more forms to fill out. I took them home and brought them back Wednesday. They gave me a "safety" tour (think "Here's a fire extinguisher, here's a firepull, here's a first aid kit.." over and over) and a tour of the classrooms. I watched another video (this one was shorter, 10 minutes, called "Bloodborne Pathogens") and had copies of my driver's license and birth certificate. Filled our more forms (including an EEOP one) and went home. So far, they haven't called me to help, but it's only been a couple of days.
Thursday, I found out that I had won a prize!! There's a new website called Clubmom. They're giving away $500 a day, and I won! (woohoo!) Late in the afternoon, I drove over to Moscow to help the Whitman Samplers get their booth set up for the Palouse Patchers Quilt Show. While trying to maneuver into a parking lot, I backed into a car and broke one of their headlights. Exchanged names and insurance info, took a deep breath, and tried not to hate myself too much.
Today we've mostly just been working on the duckhouse and I've been quilting while Mike works on computer stuff. The duckhouse is really getting close to being done, and if the weather cooperates I should be painting it Monday evening before our last baby class. If you're interested, I'm planning on painting it a very bright, obnoxious blue. :) The ducks should get here Wednesday. Well, I guess that's about it. Time to go update other pages now.
