[Back to Diary] [Home]

It feels more like work than fun to post updates to this journal lately, so I'm taking a break. Don't know how long, but I know I'll be back. I'm not storming off in a huff or anything, I'm just bored with it. Back later.

I have a raging headache today, and I'm not sure why. Could be dehydration, I guess, but it's more likely it's just lack of sleep. I'm starting to have more trouble falling asleep again, and an infant that still wakes every two hours to nurse doesn't help matters. I keep trying different solid foods with her, and she still shows absolutely no interest. Even mashed potatoes were a miss today, and potatoes are usually all I can ever get her to eat. Nothing to be done about it, of course, except keep trying different foods. A mom from pre-school suggested bananas mixed with avocados, or oatmeal cereal instead of rice. We shall see.

I took the kids to a movie today. We saw Piglet's Big Movie, which was a hit with Adam. He was perfectly well behaved, especially in comparison to some of the other kids there. Kayla never fell asleep the way she usually does, and she still got a little fussy toward the end of the movie, but all in all it was an experience I wouldn't mind repeating. Yesterday I spent working - on QuiltIndex, my various websites (I'm up to four now that I can think of), the garden (it was WICKED windy, so I just mulched the onions), and the house. I'm trying to get Adam's room ready for him, which mostly means moving bookshelves out. I only have the one big bookshelf left to clear off, and the big dresser to move out, then I'll be ready to take up carpet and pull the cheap paneling off the wall and decide on next steps. The rest of the house is getting correspondingly more cluttered, but there isn't anything to be done about it; he needs a room. As Kayla gets more mobile and more interested in playing with toys, we have more clashes over ownership and usage rights, and I need to be able to assert my "If it's in communal living space, it's communal property" rule. That only works if there's some place that isn't communal, though. My guess is that I should be ready to go shopping for carpet, wall-paint, wallpaper border/stencils/whatever, and bed around mid-month. We shall see. Might have to haul some furniture to the dump/secondhand store to make the rest of the house livable, though.

Friday was another crop night. I took Kayla, of course, and just worked on greeting cards. I plan on sending them to the soldiers overseas, so they can use them to send back to their friends/family. I hear greeting cards are among those things difficult to come by for deployed personnel, even in peacetime. I got far less accomplished than I would have liked, since Kayla required so much attention and it was just she and I, but it was still fun and I'm glad I went. Before the crop I took her to the doctor. She had been tugging at her ears, and I wanted to have them looked at. They're fine.

Thursday was Adam's preschool. He had a grand time, and I got the shaker boxes from my last swap finished. I wasn't completely thrilled with them, but I thought they were pretty good, and at least they're done. After preschool I took him to McDonald's so he could run around and rid himself of some excess energy while Kayla slept. A quick stop at The Memory Nook finished the day. Adam loves going there, because they have some toys in the back that he can play with while I talk/shop/whatever. He especially likes the toy monsters from the Monsters, Inc. movie. It's always a bit of a struggle to get him to agree to leave, but we managed.

I don't remember Wednesday at all, so it can't have been very interesting. Tuesday was our weekly trip into town, and the day I sent out the monthly mailing to the QuiltIndex mailing list. Ho-hum. Monday was another blur. Sunday, Kayla and I went to see The Core. It was awful. No, really, worse than that. One of the worst movies I've ever seen. The premise was already a little tentative, but the execution made it even worse. Yuck!
