Kiosk Photo Processing for Digital Prints

Another great option for photo processing is the walk-up kiosk. This self-serve option is sweeping the nation on the heels of other do-it-yourself services such as automated grocery checkout, computerized airline check-in, and the automated teller. With this option, you simply insert your camera's memory card or a CD with your photos burned onto it, make any touch-ups to your photos that you wish, and print your photos at the size you specify. It is a great option for getting digital photos immediately.

You still need to do some shopping around for kiosk processing - comparing price, quality, ease of use, finishes, and speed of processing. Some kiosks might take longer than others to generate your prints, and you might feel pressured to hurry your processing if there happens to be a line of people waiting to use the machine. Controlling children in a crowded store while you try to make decisions about your digital prints could be a problem for some (I know it is for me!).

If you want to try kiosk printing for your digital photos, I recommend that you start small - with only a few photos. Try kiosks in several different stores so you can compare the features, prices, and speed of printing for each. Go during "off-peak" time to decrease the chance you'll have people hurrying you - early morning during the weekday is best, lunchtime on the weekends is worst.

Kiosk printing isn't a good option for everyone, but it might be for you! Some of the better-known stores that have digital-printing kiosks are Wal-Mart, Target, Rite Aid, and Eckerds. Several grocery store chains have added this service as well. Remember, kiosk digital photo processing isn't offered at every store in a given chain, so call ahead to make sure you aren't wasting your time.

Homework

Think kiosk processing might be an option for you? Investigate your local area for locations that offer the service. Compare prices, terms, and ease of use. Ask your friends for local recommendations. Then, try a few!
