Last Thursday we went into town to do chores. Our first stop was at the doc, so he could check Mike's face. He whacked it pretty good a few weeks ago with a handtruck, and it was still bothering him, so he wanted to have it looked at. Basically there's nothing they can do. Friday I just stayed home and worked on a Christmas present I'm making.
Saturday I was supposed to go to a Winter Craft Fair over in St. John, but I hadn't had time to make anything for it and didn't feel like sitting in cold air to sell a few plastic bag recycling bags I made a year ago, so I just stayed home. I have no idea what I did Sunday. I have no recollection of it at all.
Monday was guild meeting. We had our annual Christmas party, which was a lot of fun. We played quilt block bingo and ate a great potluck lunch and got to visit and have lots of fun. Afterwards, we had a meeting of the Needlers (a small subgroup of the main guild - the Patchin People). We planned our winter luncheon and that was about it. Then I left and went to a meeting with the director of the local Alternatives to Violence to install a database. No details here.
Tuesday I drove into Spokane and went to a quilting class. I didn't finish the thing I was working on (an applique wall-hanging) so now I have yet another UFO. Afterward I had dinner at Taste of India with my friend Dan, then drove home through fog and occasional snow (uneventful, just yucky). Yesterday I just stayed home and recuperated; being out in foul weather is exhausting. Today, Mike went and did chores without me, so Adam and I stayed home alone together for the first time in a long time. We read books, and I worked while he napped, and we did a couple loads of laundry, and we baked some brownies for daddy, and we got our snow gear on and went to put the poultry away, and had a grand time. He was very well-behaved the whole time.
This was my week for abandoned plans. It started Tuesday, when our farrier came over. The plan was to have him trim the horse's hooves, but Mike says they were so ornery they didn't even get that. Thursday night, Kris was supposed to come over to sew, but the weather was so awful and the roads so treacherous, she didn't bother. Friday, Denise, sewing, same thing. That night there was a basketball game I had wanted to go to, but the night weather was worse than the day weather, so I stayed home.
One appointment I did keep was Saturday - the first meeting of the Piece/Meal Quilters. This is a group that formed out of the Quilt Lover's Luncheon I went to at Pleasant Times. No quilting got done by anyone but me. First, the turnout was poor - probably because it's too close to Christmas (January should be better). One girl couldn't find the quilt she'd wanted to work on (she wants to repair one her mother made), another just came to find out when the next meeting was, another just came to show-and-tell, and the hostess still needed to iron her fabric. So it was that I just sat and worked on the binding for my first-ever quilt. It's almost done now.
Monday it was back to abandoned plans. I was supposed to go to a meeting of the Needlers in Pullman, but the weather was still bad, and I wasn't feeling well, so I stayed home. Tuesday, I took Adam into town and ran a few errands, including buying 8 yards of batting for $36 (I had a 50% off coupon). Tonight was the LLL meeting, but the radio said there was a lot of "black glass" between here and there, so I didn't chance it.
The highlight of the week was Thursday, when Mike and I came home from doing chores. There was a box waiting for me from Mike's folks - the first Christmas present of the season for me - a John Flynn quilting frame system! I haven't used it yet (have been working on other things) but am eager to give it a try.
