I read a few of the Lincoln Rhyme series books out of order, so I had seen a reference to the Watchmaker and was very eager to read this novel. It did not disappoint.
The story is one of a serial killer who uses gruesome methods to kill his victims, prolonging their deaths as long as possible. From that platform, you launch into the trademark Deaver twist-within-a-twist-within-a-twist format.
Some of the recent Deaver novels have been a little disappointing, obviously driven by the publisher’s schedule rather than the author’s inspiration. This was not one of them – highly recommended.
