We got back from Spokane at 1AM yesterday. We saw three properties, two in Republic, Washington and one in Endicott, Washington. The first one was forty acres of basically mountainous forestland, with a converted mobile home. The second one was twenty acres (with an option to buy twenty more) of very steeply-sloped grassland, with a house and a detached garage. The third was 120 acres of creekbottoms and grasslands with a house, a 2-car attached garage, a detached garage, root cellar, chicken coop, barn, stable, and corral. We made an offer on that one. Hopefully, we’ll hear from the seller by the end of today, and I’ll have more news to report. Incidentally, pictures of those first two properties should be posted soon. We didn’t take pictures of the third one, because it was dark by the time we got to Endicott.

Wow!! Has it been that long?? Well, let’s see.. we got the invitations in… they’re really cute… now Mike has decided he needs to create an Access database (Access is one of the programs he’s helped debug) to keep track of the guest list. And I went to Ben Franklin Crafts and bought myself a calligraphy pen and instructional book. I’m going to see how hard it would be to learn… if it’s not too painful, I’d like to hand-calligraph the envelopes. :) Luckily, we got all of the return addresses pre-printed. Again, if you think I might not have your snail mail address, please send it to me.
We had our first dinner party last night. Not counting Steve, we had 4 guests. I cooked enough food for an army, according to Mike… and we’re eating leftovers as we speak. :) The party was in celebration of the end of Ramadhan, so I made alot of Mid-Eastern food. “What is &...

We made the movie, didn’t do dinner. Drove by McDonald’s instead (parking at the restaurant was atrocious; that’ll teach me to plan for Saturday night!). Steve’s party was a smashing success (yay Steve!) and there was almost no damage to property. :)
Yesterday I went shopping with Karen, of Mike and Karen, of Woodinville. I bought a wallet and a hair towel. I also bought some chocolate-covered almonds from The Sweet Factory. (Hey, I was fasting!! It was a moment of weakness!!)
Speaking of fasting, Eid Mubarak!!! For those of you who don’t know what I mean, Muslims (of which I am one) fast for one lunar month each year, from sunrise to sunset, abstaining from food, drink, smoking, sex, impure thoughts…. basically just about everything. And yesterday was the last day (woo-hoo new MOON!). So today marks the beginning of the three-day holiday that follows Ramadhan (the month of fasting).

Making more progress. We booked the officiant, Rev. Dan Eakin. He’ll be performing a non-religious, “modern” ceremony. We still need to tweak it a bit… including writing our own vows. We checked our mail the other day, and the contract for the Arboretum was in it, so we sent that back out. They didn’t send us the approved caterer’s list, though, so we’re still on hold with that. :-(
I think I’m going to call my sister, Donna, and have her go by the florist I liked and see what she thinks. I’d like to be able to just go in there when we get back to Texas and pick out the bouquets, boutonnieres and a few arrangements for the reception. I like quick and easy plans. :) That only leaves the baker for the cake. And we already have one of those selected, we just need to do a tasting, and select a style. That will have to wait until we get back to Texas, too.

We’ve been busy little beavers. Monday, we booked the photographer (Alpha Photography) and the Bed & Breakfast for the honeymoon (Tyee Lodge), as well as the flights for the honeymoon. That was a big check-things-off-your-to-do list day. :) Yesterday, we went to Bellevue Square Mall to the Paper Tree and picked out our invitations. Just as I’m typing this, they’ve sent us the proofs to look over (I’m only a little frightened at how quickly that happened…. ). Also, Mike talked to the bridal consultant today from the Dallas Arboretum, and she sent out the rental contract on the 8th, so it should be here any day now. The only really major details left now are the caterers and the florist, then getting to Dallas to meet with the baker we picked out and actually SELECTING a cake.

It’s been too long, I know…. and so much has been going on, I’m not sure where to start. We made the drive from Dallas to Seattle without incident. OK, OK, so I got ONE speeding ticket, but that hardly even counts! If anyone is interested, I got it in El Paso, Texas, and was going 72 in a 60. Not dangerous, but admittedly illegal. I’ll probably do a defensive driving course to get it off of my record.
Monday night we reached Palm Desert, California and spent the night with Mike’s Mom & Dad. They’re the sweetest, nicest people you could ever meet. They were completely gracious when I came to visit. I even got a few lemons from the lemon tree in their yard. I think I’m going to make some lemonade from it tonight for dinner.
We brought the cats back with us… Pepper and Owen are fitting in just fine, and trying to get accustomed to Princess (alpha cat) and Max (the sheltie). Pics of t...

(whew) Just (whew) Today was MUCHO busy. :)
Decided to tackle the small errands first – pay rent, drop off a movie at Blockbuster, run by the post office and file change of address forms…
Then we went to BridesMart. You see… I had found this picture in a bridal magazine of a dress that I just fell in love with. Mike insisted that we find it (something about gleam in my eye, or blush on my cheek, or something equally sappy), and BridesMart is the only place that has it. So hi-ho, hi-ho, it was off to BridesMart we go… er…. went… er… something…. anyway, they had the right dress, wrong size, and somehow we managed to place an order for one my size over the ear-splitting sounds of my squeals of joy. :)
Then it was off to the Bridal Show. It’s HUGE. We walked around for a good 2 hours. Picked up I-don’t-know-how-many brochures and flyers a...

I’ve spent the last 30 minutes cleaning up cat vomit and doing the dishes, so this update will actually be like a little mini-vacation.
We started out today thinking we were going to be trying on wedding dresses. We didn’t. For some reason, people seem to think the first day of EVERY new year should be like some kind of HOLIDAY or something. Fortunately, some retailers don’t share this philosophy, so the day wasn’t a complete loss. We dejectedly drove around until we found a Bed Bath & Beyond that was open. We registered there for wedding gifts (we’re jumping the gun a bit on that, but we had nothing else to do). That took a nice, big, two-hour chunk of the day. We made a couple of immediate purchases, including a vacuum cleaner, which Mike is busy putting together as I type.
After that was all done, we went and had lunch at Chili’s
