For the families of the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom, I offer a most humble Thank You.

Today was, I think, my most physically productive day, ever. Well, except for that few times when I produced a whole person, but then… that’s kinda hard to top. This morning, I temporarily caught up my email (that’s ALWAYS only temporary), then (brace yourself!) I finished the painting on the re-construction project! I did a coat of “high-hide white” on the hallway side of the new wall, and two coats of “Coastal Mist” in the bedroom, on all four walls. It looks great, if I do say so myself! It’s not a professional job, but it’s done, and it looks good enough for me. Obviously, I’ve been making incremental progress all along, and just not bothering to write about it here.
My hands were aching sore after that, but the grass in our side yard (where the kids play) was nearing three feet deep, so I got out there and mowed it. I emptied the grass bag 15 times if I emptied it once, but that chore is also done.
Hopefully, ...

This song always makes me feel all tingly and romantic and sexy and happy. Keith Urban sings it. I don’t know if he wrote it or not, but whoever wrote it really knows how to tap into what a woman feels.

I’m gonna be here for you baby
I’ll be a man of my word
Speak the language in a voice that you have never heard
I wanna sleep with you forever
And I wanna die in your arms
In a cabin by a meadow where the wild bees swarm
And I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I’ll earn your trust making memories of us
I wanna honor your mother
I wanna learn from your pa
I wanna steal your attention like a bad outlaw
I wanna stand out in a crowd for you
A man among men
I wanna make your world better than it’s ever been
And I’m gonna love you like nobody loves you
And I’ll earn your trust making memories of us
We’ll follow the rainbow

Today is our sixth anniversary. Our anniversary tradition is to take the day off from work, and just relax with our family. We’ve spent the day reading, eating, playing games, having baths, taking naps, watching movies, and otherwise lazing around. Mike was trying to explain “anniversary” to Adam, and he showed him my bridal picture, taken in front of a little tiny waterfall in a park near our photographer’s house. Being (almost) five, Adam’s comment was, “Well, it looks kind of like Mama, but she was dressed up like Princess Waterfall.”

I watched the ACM awards last night. The Toby Keith performance was heart-wrenching (he performed for the troops in Baghdad), though not really that remarkable, technically. Gretchen Wilson’s was great, but you can tell she didn’t stretch herself much. Brad Paisley’s a cutiepie, in a “coochie-coochie, wook at da coot widdow baby” kind of way.
But Faith. Sweetie. What happened? Was your stylist on vacation or something? That middle-of-the-head part look SO does not work for you. You’re a beautiful woman. Gorgeous. But you were NOT lookin’ good at this show. Get a little sleep, comb that mop, and kill the fake-plaster smile, mm-k?

I’m very, very slowly digging myself out from under the mountain of work that built up in my absence, and during our illness, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. Mike got the younger two to bed, and Adam worked quietly at his computer on his new game while I blitzed through nearly 100 emails that have been piling up for over a week. (That’s NOT counting the spam, of course.) One of my latest emails was from Mike’s mom, with whom I had the pleasure of scrapbooking the last day we were there. I taught her just a very few tiny, basic things, and I’m pleased to report she’s sticking to it! She’s scrapbooked five pages now, and is on the prowl for more supplies. I’m so happy she’s enjoying it, and am super pleased I could be a small part of introducing her to a new hobby.
Love you, mom. Oh, and don’t forget to check out KMA – their stock is pheno...

Everybody here – except the baby, thank God – is sick as a dog. It started last night, shortly after dinner. I was nauseous and uncomfortable. I started running at both ends, and STILL haven’t stopped. Then it hit Kayla, then Mike, then Adam. Last night was the roughest night we’ve ever had, INCLUDING the up-all-night new baby experience. Mike and I both have 101.5 fevers and everybody’s limping along on watered down apple juice and crackers. Mike and I are both still waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay behind on work, and this isn’t helping.
And I don’t think I’ll ever be able to enjoy pizza, ever again.
I guess I just wanted to whine, or rant, or… something.

Some time ago, I passed the “if I could…” torch (April 20th entry) to my not-so-secret blog crush, Liberal Larry. Well, he dragged ass about it for awhile, but finally got around to posting his bit. It was, as I expected, very funny. My favorites?
But damned if that bastard didn’t tag me back with a new meme!! Why couldn’t he just give me funny answers, like Kool-Aid did? Or serious answers, like Ulrika did? Arrrgh! (Hey, lookit me! I’m a bonnie pirate!)
Anyway, here’s the new meme:
Read the whole post...If I could be a missionary…I’d give small pox to the indigenous peoples, just to stay in character.
If I could be a professor…I’d draw Binky off the back of a matchbook and get tenure at the University of Colorado.

I never thought I’d say it after Mariah Carey’s spectacular public meltdown a couple of years ago, but every track I’ve heard on the radio from her new album has been bangin’. Kudos to her for stepping back up. The “We Belong Together” video is hot, too. And that cover? Smokin’. I’m adding this one to my shopping cart. You go, girl.

Today started out pretty fair – low-key, just trying to catch up on work. I kept waiting for some kind of Mother’s Day mention, but there was none. Finally, I asked Mike if he remembered what day it was. He apologized he’d forgotten, wished me a happy Mother’s Day, then we started calling parents.
Mid-afternoon, he succumbed to a gathering sleep deficit, and had a nap downstairs with Kayla. About a half-hour ago, Adam announced he had pooped in his pants. He got through our entire vacation without a single accident, and now this. I was so disappointed and frustrated, I wasn’t sure what to do. I told him to go downstairs to get cleaned up, and grabbed Thomas to go help him. Then I realized the baby, too, was poopy. Grrrr….
Changed Thomas’ diaper, and it needed to be rinsed out. Adam was occupying the potty in the front bathroom, so I took the diaper to the back bathroom. Just outside the door, I found a place where one of the cats had pissed on my soon...

We’re now back from our trip (sorry I forgot to post a “going away” message), and moving on to the next step: catching up! Two weeks of email and snail mail, not to mention household chores, bills, etc. It’s going to take us awhile to recover, but we’re so glad to be back in our own beds, using our own bath, and eating our own foods. I might even find one or two things to blog about! ;)
