Errands, Bit of Nausea

Tags: shopping food pregnancy

We went into town again today. It was a usual “rounds” day – deliver eggs to the groomer’s, then to Becky’s (I dropped off a quilt there, too, to be quilted), then to the bank, then Subway’s (for lunch for me), then the grange, then the grocery store. By somewhere between Becky’s and the bank I was feeling really nauseous. I sat and rested some in the bank, and decided I needed food (I had only had a bowl of cereal and a piece of bread all day, and this was about 2:30), hence the stop at Subway’s. All in all the rest of the day was pretty normal. Read – a lot of sleeping, not much else getting accomplished.

Mor Braxton-Hicks Contractions

The Braxton-Hicks contractions I started identifying a few days ago are coming more often now, and harder. Still not regular, of course, but I definitely know when they’re happening. I have 6-10 a day, I think. So far, I haven’t had four in an hour, which is when I’m supposed to call the doc. We go back to see him again in a week, and I’m sort of wondering if he’ll be at all concerned about this development. Probably not; he’s been pretty laid back about everything else so far. Oops.. having one now.. they don’t hurt, really. Mike asked if they hurt or were uncomfortable. The answer is – neither. Well, ok, sometimes they’re uncomfortable, but mostly they just feel very STRANGE. It’s almost like you were doing a stomach crunch without having to move a muscle on your own. Very odd.

It’s 4AM, and I’ve been awake for a half-hour. I haven’t slept more than a few minutes at a stretch, and that’s got me cranky, so watch out! I just can’t seem to get comfortable, and to top it off, at 3:30 Pepper decided to sing us a chorus of, “I don’t want to be alone, so ONE of you has to wake up and pay attention to me.” GRRR The first one to tell me this is a prelude of Adam gets it, right in the eye, I swear.

OK, the news – yesterday we drove into St. John (15 miles away) because they were having a town-wide garage sale. “Town-wide” in this case meant 10 garage sales, 7 of which were still going by the time we got there (1-ish). We hit 5 or so of them, and mostly bought baby clothes and hangers. The day before that, I had my first recognizable Braxton-Hicks contractions. I had intended to write a sweet, goopy update about that, but sweet and goopy ...

In-Laws on the Way

Yesterday was our errand/doctor appointment day. The first stop was the doctor’s office. Then, we stopped at the mower medic. Apparently, the problem with the mower was that it required “adjustment”. $11.84 worth of adjustment, as I understand it. Neither of us is quite certain what that means, but anyway the mower seems to work. Then we went to the groomer’s to drop off their eggs, then the bank, then to Becky’s. Mike then dropped me off at the grocery store so I could munch on some late lunch in the deli while he did the grange run. We did our grocery shopping, filled up on gas, then headed home. All in all, a pretty uneventful day.

Monday we spoke to Mike’s mom and dad, and found out they’re going to be headed this way from New Jersey, and that they left this morning! So in two or three weeks they’ll be here, to help take care of the farm and get ready for the impending delivery (I’m due in about six weeks, can y...

Baby is Head-Down

Tags: adam pregnancy

Another doctor’s check! As usual, everything’s normal. I’ve gained 3 pounds in the last two weeks, my blood pressure is 130/70 (normal for me), urine test was fine, womb measurement was perfect, Adam’s heart rate is perfect, and there’s really not much else to report! Adam’s head-down, although his back is on the opposite side from where it was a few weeks ago when we had the ultrasound. We go back again on July 5th, then we start going every week. I can’t believe it – as of tomorrow I’m going to be 34 weeks pregnant. For those that don’t know, that’s VERY pregnant. Only six weeks to go until the due date, so it could be anywhere from 3 to 9 weeks from now. The thought that we could have a baby here in 3 weeks terrifies me. Well, sometimes it terrifies me.. sometimes I get really excited about it.

I Love Baths

Please let me say that I love baths. No, I mean that I really, really love baths. Sometimes they’re the only things that save me from driving myself to the doctor and demanding pitocin at gunpoint. I’m getting very uncomfortable in this body; it’s too crowded and there are too many of us IN it. I only have 6 1/2 weeks to go until my due date, and that seems too long. (Sometimes it seems too short, too, but that’s not this morning’s rant.) His Highness is doing well, I guess, but I can’t say the same for me. I wake up more and more mornings cranky, irritable, tired, sore, grumpy, and a complete bitch to live with. Just ask Mike. My patience level is about this long: – . The cats drive me out of my mind, and Pepper’s yowl is so piercing he should be drafted as some sort of super-secret torture device for the CIA or something. Like everyone else on this place, he finds Mike a calming influence which is (...

Tiny Strawberry Harvest

Yesterday, I had lots of energy for some reason. I managed to weed over half of the strawberry patch (two huge baskets of weeds) and harvest a small bowl of tasty little strawberries, that were actually quite yummy with last night’s dinner. I also did some dishes, a little laundry, and finally finished the flannel jacket I’ve been working on for Adam. It’s quite cute, if I do say so myself, although not perfect. I’ll upload a picture sooner or later.

Tuesday we went for a trip into town. We took the lawnmower (which wouldn’t start, for some reason) to the lawnmower repair shop. Then we went to the groomer’s, the fabric shop, the bank, the grocery store, and the grange. We also managed to get all of Adam’s diapers, clothes, and blankets washed and put away, and have made more progress on packing our hospital bag. I’ll be 33 weeks pregnant tomorrow, so I really have to get that bag finished. That’s my project for the r...

Sleep Schedule

Tags: adam pregnancy

We’ve sort of settled into a semi-routine for sleeping. It doesn’t always work, but this is how it usually happens – I wake up sometime in the morning, usually FAR too early (like 4:30 or 5) and stay awake, checking email and munching on breakfast, until sleepiness creeps back up on me, usually around 8 or so. So, I head back to bed and sleep til 11 or 12. This sounds like a lot of time sleeping, but it’s not, since I also don’t fall asleep until 1:30, and then I sleep fitfully. I’m not tired, since I’m able to catnap this way during the day, but it makes me REALLY grateful I don’t have to work during the day. I honestly don’t think I could manage it if I had to work.

It was another reasonably productive day for me today. First, I tech-edited a chapter for the book I’m working on. Then, I did some work on a client’s website. Then, I took a bath, then a nap. :)

When I woke up, I actually did a load of dishes. Try not to faint, now, you might hurt yourself! LOL. After that was finished, I took pictures of the gifts Adam has received from folks. Then, I put together the dresser we bought for him yesterday. It wasn’t hard, but it did cause my hands a little cramping. Wah. :) It looks nice, though, and if we get our dryer fixed tomorrow (Don the appliance guy is coming to look at it in the morning) I’ll wash all of Adam’s clothes and get them put away, just like a real mommy. LOL

Lastly, I made a new page to display the gifts Adam has received. I have friends all over the world, and wanted to share pictures of the gifts with them. And now I̵...

First Contraction?

Tags: adam pregnancy

I either had a contraction this morning, or a very vivid dream about one – I’m honestly not sure which. If it happened, it happened just as I was waking up. I didn’t hurt; it felt like squeezing at the top of my uterus. Anyway, it was only one (if that many) and I’m not really worried about it.

Dresser, Filing Cabinet, Sewing Notions

Tags: shopping food pregnancy

Today was a day for shopping. We drove into Moscow, Idaho in search of a dresser to hold Adam’s clothes, and came back with that, and more. First stop was Joann’s fabrics, so I could buy all kinds of sewing notions. Lately, I’ve gotten back into making clothes, and this has made me realize I’m woefully deficient in things like buttons, bias tape, and zippers. So, I stocked up. Now, I’m ready to tackle all of those patterns I have. I actually started a flannel jacket yesterday, but had to stop because I didn’t have any bias tape. Maybe I’ll finish it tonight.

After Joann’s, we went to Office Depot to buy a filing cabinet. The service there was ridiculously bad (especially when the employee-to-customer ratio was about 3:1) so we left and went the 1/4 mile it takes to get to their competitor – Staples. We bought the filing cabinet from them. Then it was on to Applebee’s so I could have a burger and fries and mozza...

Glucose Test Results

It dawned on me (after scanning this page for typos) that I never posted the results of the glucose screening test. Shame on me! It went well – my fasting blood glucose level (BGL) was 67. After I drank the orange fizzy stuff and waited an hour, it was at 75. All well within normal parameters.

Boring Day of Errands and Egg Delivery

We had a trip into Colfax today. It was actually a pretty long one – it started with two stops in Endicott (the school, to sell some eggs, and the post office, to pick up a package of diapers from Born to Love), then on to Colfax. First, to the doctor’s for a checkup; then on to the Catholic church where they hold the blood drives so Mike could donate; a quick stop at the hardware store; then we swung by the pet grooming shop (we sell eggs to the groomer, but she was already closed when we got there); then on to Becky’s where we were cleaned out of eggs and I picked up a few things; then to the bank where we made a few deposits and were scolded for not saving some eggs (we promised to go to the bank before Becky’s next week); then to the grange, where Mike loaded all of the feed while I sat on my butt; then to the grocery store; then the gas station, then home.

Baby Detergent

Tags: adam pregnancy

Another day, another OB check. All in all, it was pretty uneventful. Weight gain is “on the normal curve”, blood pressure is normal, urine test was normal. Heart rate is normal, symptoms are normal, I’m normal, you’re normal, he’s normal, she’s normal, everything’s normal, normal, normal. I only SOUND like I’m complaining, really. That was our last four-week visit; now we start going every two weeks. We did get to hear his heartbeat. Made me fall in love all over again, which is (what else?) – normal.

Oh, one thing of note here is that we stopped at the grocery store before we came home, and looked at Dreft, the baby detergent. We couldn’t really tell anything from their packaging that would make them better than any other detergent (other than “this is the detergent for babies”) so we decided to just go with the regular stuff. It’s EXPENSIVE...

Steve Visits

Steve came to visit this weekend. We had fun, although the drive to Spokane feels a lot longer when you’re in your eighth month than when you’re in your fifth (which is, I think, the last time I drove there). This time all 3 of us (me, Mike, and Steve) were in the car, since Mike (rightfully so, it turns out) doesn’t think I should be making that long of a drive myself. On the way there, I snoozed for a few minutes, and on the way back, I was so miserable I thought I was going to throw myself out the door into the ditch. It was not a pleasant car ride (it was three hours round trip, in a truck without air conditioning, much of it on bumpy, winding roads).

Saturday we drove to Moscow. On the way, we stopped in Pullman at Basilio’s and had some Italian food. I had chicken parmigiana, he had fish and chips. Don’t ask me why they serve fish and chips at an Italian restaurant; they do. Anyway, after lunch we drove on in to Moscow and sa...

No More Driving Alone

Tags: pregnancy movies food pets

There hasn’t been a whole lot going on, really. I haven’t even been out of the house this whole week, except for the occasional brief trip to the barn or the stable. Mike made the weekly trip to town on Tuesday, and I was originally scheduled to go with him, but at the last minute Adam decided we needed a very long nap, so nap we did.

Mike read my diary from last month, and he’s now uncomfortable having me out alone, or having me here alone. A lot of this has to do with the fact that it seems everyone we’ve talked to lately has had their babies at around 30 weeks (I’m 31 weeks tomorrow) so I won’t get to stay home napping much longer, and my days of driving around alone are over.

My friend Steve comes for a visit tomorrow. I’m really excited, because he’s always so much fun to be with. If I’m up to it, we’ll go see movies in Moscow and pig out on junk food. :) If not, we’ll stay home and watc...

Packing the Bag

Tags: adam pregnancy

I think I misdiagnosed myself in my last post. Probably from reading too many pregnancy books about what “might” be happening now. Anyway, I don’t think I’m lightening, because the heavy feeling isn’t constant. (For the record, I still think “lightening” is a stupid word.) He seems to drift down that way, do a couple of breakdance-style headspins on my pelvic bone, then drift back up to midway where he seems to spend most of his time. He does have a new trick – back twinges. It happens when he’s particularly low and kicks or “swirls” in a particular way. Ever crack your tailbone? I’ve bruised mine… it hurts a BIT worse than these back twinges. They’re extremely brief – lasting only a second – but they sure snap you to attention when they happen. I’ll have about an hour or so of them, then go take a warm bath and I’m good to go again. Poor Mik...
