So for about the last two months, I’ve been on a mission to reduce my weight. My goal was to lose 42 pounds, through changes in diet, and more exercise. If you’ve been reading here awhile, you know I’ve tried this several times before, with varying degrees of success.
This time I decided to keep a diary of what I eat, in hopes that it would help keep me from cheating. I didn’t want to report this all publicly, though, so I signed up for an account at My Food Diary. I must say, I have been thrilled with their service.
They already have a pretty extensive database of foods, but you can always manually add your own, or even create your own recipes and have the program calculate the nutritional information. You input your weight and your goal weight, and it will tell you how many calories you’re allowed to have in a given day if you want to either maintain your weight, or lose 2 pounds per week. Most days, I’m somewhere in between those two numbers, but closer to the “lose two pounds a week” point. It also calculates and reports on other nutritional benchmarks, like saturated fats, sodium, protein, sugars, etc.
So far, I’ve lose over 18 pounds. I still have a long way to go, but this is real, tangible proof that this site works for me. I didn’t lose it all at once and I didn’t drop a whole lot too fast (the most I’ve lost in a day was 1.4 pounds, and most days it’s about 0.4 pounds). I had several birthdays in there, too, so those days were a bit of a setback, but you just get back to it the next day.
I go out sometimes with friends, and I give myself a little leeway on those nights. I know that it will have an effect on my weigh-in the next morning, but I’m willing to make that trade-off. It just feels like a more normal way of living than totally denying myself things when I go out with friends.
I look forward to continued progress with the site, and reaching my goal weight, hopefully before Halloween. :)

I’ve been so busy lately I can’t even hit Harvey’s place more than once a week. That’s why I nearly missed your comment. LOL. I shall have to see if I can squeeze in more blog reading time. ;-)
