Only four months since my last post here? I could have sworn it was longer than that! Anyway, I got bit by the blogging bug again, so here I am. In no particular order:
The kids are getting ready to put on another play, with Mike’s help. This time it’s Gilgamesh. I made costumes for everyone, which took up the better part of May. That’s finally done, and I can get back to earning an income. About damn time, too; sewing was starting to be more work than fun, and I was missing code. I need variety!
I’m also starting to get caught back up on the housework, which has been getting away from me while I was playing Betsy Ross. Not going to do it all at once; incremental progress will be fine.
I took a break from doing “regular” homeschooling with the kids, and now we’re doing an extended unit on Egypt (modern and ancient). They’re really enjoying it and excited, and I’m not feeling bored by teachin...

So for about the last two months, I’ve been on a mission to reduce my weight. My goal was to lose 42 pounds, through changes in diet, and more exercise. If you’ve been reading here awhile, you know I’ve tried this several times before, with varying degrees of success.
This time I decided to keep a diary of what I eat, in hopes that it would help keep me from cheating. I didn’t want to report this all publicly, though, so I signed up for an account at My Food Diary. I must say, I have been thrilled with their service.
They already have a pretty extensive database of foods, but you can always manually add your own, or even create your own recipes and have the program calculate the nutritional information. You input your weight and your goal weight, and it will tell you how many calories you’re allowed to have in a given day if you want to either maintain your weight, or lose 2 pounds per week....

Life continues to busily march on and on. Today was the last weigh-in before my birthday. I had hoped to get my weight down to 220 before my birthday on Thursday. I fell 5 pounds short of that, but I’m still down 24 pounds, which I figure is still nothing to sneeze at. And I’ll get there… hopefully before the end of the month. My exercise lately has consisted mostly of working on the chicken coop, since we’re losing more and more of them to predators who are finding the holes in the coop’s roof and sagging doors. I’m building new doors for both entrances into the coop, as well as new half-doors that let the chickens out to their pen. Next will be to fix the fence in the big scratch pen and build a new gate, then tramp down all of the brush that’s accumulated this year while that area was vacant.
None of this is helped by my back twinging today. Dammit.
I’m still learning more C# and ASP

I didn’t like the pictures I took while I was in Texas, and it’s not just because my camera was on the blink (Sony fixed that little problem on warranty – Go Sony!). I realized that I have become, for disinterest in a politer word, a fatass. My entire family struggles with poor eating habits and serious weight issues, and I am no exception. I have long found it difficult – even embarrassing – to shop for clothes that are flattering. I’m also seeing other weight-related issues that I’m just not willing to accept anymore. I want to be healthy. I want to like what I see when I’m naked in front of a mirror. I want to feel desirable and attractive. But most of all, I want to be around for a good, long time, for my family.
So, I’ve changed the way I live. I decided to take control of and responsibility for my eating habits. I’m not a dieter, because diets are temporary. Instead, I’m changing my tendencies. I st...

This appears to be the pregnancy where I can eat anything without gaining any weight. I started the pregnancy out at about 252 (I’m 6’1"). My goal weight when not pregnant is 220. Between the first trimester nausea, and the problems with my teeth making it hard to find things to eat, I dropped to about 240. I hovered around there for MONTHS. Then I had my wisdom teeth pulled, and at my next weekly weigh-in I was at 241. The week after that (last week), it was 246. I thought, “Finally! I’m gaining weight!” At six months, not gaining any weight was starting to concern me a little.
At this week’s weigh-in, I was right back to 241. What the hell? I’ve eaten a lot more in the last two weeks than I have during the rest of this pregnancy; why is the needle not moving? Now, don’t get me wrong, 241 is no lightweight, but I’m in the third trimester! I should be gaining weight at a rate of about a...

A first, I’m going to “quote of the day” myself, in a conversation I recently had with Mike about my latest shopping trip.
“There is nothing like a room full of full-length mirrors and unforgiving fluorescent lighting to get your fat ass off the Doritos.”
And with that, I am back on my diet.

Today was pretty busy. We woke up, Mike did some editing and I cross-stitched and had breakfast. About 11AM, we headed for Pullman, the closest “big” city and home of the Cougars of WSU – Washington State University. We drove and walked around basically the entire town, stopping at a quilting store (got on the mailing list), bookstore (of COURSE), gun store, Goodwill (still in search of a pressure cooker – no luck), and ShopKo (like a Wal-mart, but smaller). We were there about 2 1/2 hours, 30 minutes of which was spent on the phone with the Companion Animal Aid and Placement Society. They got more information than a humane society can POSSIBLY ever need, and we’re on a waiting list for a stray dog… a waiting list for a stray, can you believe it??
On the way back, we stopped in Colfax – the closest town with a real-life grocery store. We ...
