Life continues to busily march on and on. Today was the last weigh-in before my birthday. I had hoped to get my weight down to 220 before my birthday on Thursday. I fell 5 pounds short of that, but I’m still down 24 pounds, which I figure is still nothing to sneeze at. And I’ll get there… hopefully before the end of the month. My exercise lately has consisted mostly of working on the chicken coop, since we’re losing more and more of them to predators who are finding the holes in the coop’s roof and sagging doors. I’m building new doors for both entrances into the coop, as well as new half-doors that let the chickens out to their pen. Next will be to fix the fence in the big scratch pen and build a new gate, then tramp down all of the brush that’s accumulated this year while that area was vacant.
None of this is helped by my back twinging today. Dammit.
I’m still learning more C# and ASP

“She looks just like her Mama.”
People say this all the time about Kayla, so when my friend Nancy – whom I’ve known since we were four – sent me a picture of the two of us as little girls, I had to wonder – do we really look that much alike? You be the judge. Oh, I think I’m about a year older than Kayla in these pictures.

Thomas was playing with Lindsey on the floor tonight, and I decided to break out the mic again and do some more recording. I just asked Thomas, “What are you doing?” and clicked Record. This is what ensued.

After having three babies you start to think you’ve seen it all. Then the fourth one comes along, and surprises you.
Lindsey loves her feet. She’s really quite taken with them. None of the other children ever showed such fascination with or affection for their feet, but she just can’t get enough. Roll her on her back, or sit her in the high chair, and she grabs at them and waves them around. Being a woman who now has more bandwidth than sense, I decided to do a short audio recording of her talking to her feet. So here is a 20-second (or so) clip of Lindsey crooning a love song to her toesies. I warn you, though – it’s a pretty large file (almost a meg) and could take awhile to download. Baby Feet (please right-click, Save As, and you might have to turn your sounds WAY up).

Wow, it’s been a busy month! Of course, earlier in the month was Mother’s Day. I had a wonderful, very low-key day. Mike and the kids got me the movie Walk the Line (Adam chose it, after Daddy informed him that mommy “likes country music and falling in love”), so I just scrapbooked and watched movies all day. Can’t beat that with a stick!
Tuesday was our anniversary. We did what we usually do on that day – took off from work, ignored the phone, and just spent time decompressing and enjoying each others’ company. Seven years, now, and still no itch my man can’t scratch!
Last night, our friend Nanci took the older three kids for awhile so that we could enjoy a nice dinner (almost) alone. Lindsey joined us, of course, but she was mostly quiet and pleasant. Dinner was barbequed country pork ribs, wilted fresh kale, fried potatoes, crab salad, and regular salad. Delish!

I took Adam to the Palouse Discovery Science Center today since his soccer practice got rained out (again!), and at one point we wandered over to their dinosaur toy area – Adam calls it “Dinosaur City.” I laid Lindsey on the carpet mat to watch him while he played (I was right next to them), and she just cooed and gurgled and talked and ate it up. A few minutes later, two little boys – about 3 or 4 years old – joined Adam and played with him, all noisy and rowdy, the way boys play. Well, that little girl was in Hog Heaven! She was as bright-eyed and alert and happy as I’ve ever seen her. She almost twisted herself in pretzels trying to follow them around the room with her eyes. At one point, I picked her up to get her out of the way of the predator-ing, and she had a little hissy fit. She did NOT want to be away from those boys! So I laid her back down nearer to them, and she w...

I neglected to mention that Linny-Bug had her first well-baby checkup on Thursday. Aside from her brothers and sister acting like heathen devil children in the waiting room, all was well. She weighed in at a hefty 9 pounds, 8 ounces, her length is up an inch to 22.5", and she’s healthy as a horse. The doctor pronounced her “perfect.” The nursing staff had somehow misplaced her hearing test, so we took her over to have that redone. Lindsey loudly objected, however, so they finally gave up – they’re essentially going to fake a new card. After that, it was over to the lab for her follow-up PKU. I hate that part of having a new baby, so Mike takes the baby in and I wait out in the hallway with the boobies. Doesn’t mean I don’t have to hear it, but at least I don’t have to be RIGHT THERE, barely restraining my impulse to murder the technician.

You know how they tell you not to let the baby get used to sleeping where it’s absolutely quiet, because they might not be able to sleep if there’s noise?
Yeah. That’s not gonna be a problem around here.

Fun Facts about Lindsey Nicole Gunderloy, age 2 days:
* She likes to be held. She doesn’t like to spend a whole lot of time in the bed by herself.
* Her nicknames include Gidget, Lins, Blinky, Monkey-Mine, and (my personal favorite) Lindsey-Dove.
* Both of her brothers, and her sister, believe she is “tute.”
* You cannot trust her body’s actual volume of output to, in any way, match its audible volume of output. Beware.
* She has long, thin fingers. The nurses predict she will play piano.
* Her upper eyelashes are long and curvy – they look like spiders are crawling out of her eye sockets. She has no lower lashes to speak of.
* She has the cutest little kitten mewl that gradually rises to this crescendo if not attended to.
* When full, she has been known to sigh, mumble, and sing.
* Her feet are very ticklish, and she Does Not want you to touch them. Her brother, Thomas, however, will get

Today was the OB appointment I never expected we’d keep. Everything is still frighteningly normal – blood pressure was 132/83, weight was up 5 pounds over 2 weeks, no mention was made of my urine being a problem, there’s plenty of amniotic fluid, and Lindsey’s heart rate is fine. I’m now two days past my estimated date of delivery. The doctor says he’s content to just let things roll along for a little while longer, but said if we have no baby by Thursday, we need to help things move. So I have another OB appointment at 10AM on the 23rd, which I hope not to keep. If Lindsey hasn’t arrived by then, we’ll almost certainly be inducing.
I’ve said all along that my guess for her birthdate would be February 21st. I shared this with the doc, joking, and found out that he’s going to be out of town both Monday AND Tuesday, so if Murphy has anything to do with it, I’ll be right. There̵...

I am so miserable. I am so very ready to STOP being pregnant! I want my daughter out, where I can see her, and where she can beat up on and abuse someone else for a change. I want to start nursing, and start losing this “baby fat.” I want to be able to bend over and touch my toes without squatting to do so. I want my back to stop hurting, my hips to get back into alignment, my shoulder to quit aching.
I want to regain my normal attention span. I want to be able to eat something – anything – without the horror of heartburn. I want to feel sexy and wanted again. I want to stop smelling like an alleycat. I want to be able to cuddle my other children without feeling like they’re going to kill me. I want the contractions to either STOP, or KEEP GOING – this stutter-stepping shit is getting seriously old.
I hate this.

I swear, I can NOT have a baby without first making an aborted attempt at delivery, and having to come slinking home from the hospital with my tail (and fetus!) tucked firmly between my legs. UGH. I am thoroughly disgusted with myself.
Timeline:
Tuesday, February 7th
4:30PM I lay down to have a nap before dinner.
5:00PM Contractions start, and are uncomfortably strong. I call Mike in to coach.
5:45PM After timing contractions, we realize they are coming anywhere from 2-4 minutes apart. I get up to take a shower, and he gets up to pack last-minute things into the van, “just in case.”
5:50PM I squat my knees a little during a contraction, and feel some kind of gush. I’m not sure if it’s amniotic fluid or urine, and as I’m in the shower, there’s no way to know for sure. I c...

Another boringly uneventful doctor’s visit today. In fact, this pregnancy has, in general, been SO unremarkable that my doctor said that, in absence of some concern on my part, I could skip next week’s visit. (He’s going to be out of town on a “Men’s Retreat” skiing, and I’d just as soon wait for his return to resume my prenatal care, such as it is.) I teased him that he could just slip us a protein strip (for testing the urine), and we could check weight and blood pressure at home. He kinda chuckled and said, “I could… but… I don’t think I will.” Hee.
So, let’s see… what WAS there to report this week? Weight was down a pound (go figure). Blood pressure was at 110/80, which the doctor deemed “excellent” and the nurse called “consistent.” (They LOVE that word, “consistent.”) I got a bi...

Still no baby. Some increasingly-real contractions, a little scare yesterday when I thought I might be leaking fluid (ahem), but nothing to get too excited about.
I’m beginning to despair of the size of this baby. I’m carrying her almost entirely in the front (Terry says from the back I don’t look pregnant, but maybe she’s just being nice), and she’s (Lindsey, not Terry) still pretty high. But OH. MY. GOD. Aside from the fact that the doctor says she’s measuring big, and her movements are VERY pronounced and obvious – even now when everything I read says she “should” be moving less – her hiccups shake my body. Like, literally. I’m sitting here now, typing this entry, and Lindsey-dove has the hiccups. And the wiggles. Her whole body hiccups, so I’m getting rhythmic kicks down at my lower-left pelvis, and just under my right ribs. My Read the whole post...

Another OB check today, still no real news. No protein, no Strep B, no blood pressure problems (117/76), reasonable (3 pounds this week) weight gain, good fetal heart rate (130). The only thing of note is that the doc will be out of town this weekend – he’s going skiing. I told him that was no problem, because there was no way she was coming this early. Increased contractions, but I’m still sticking to 2/21 as my guess at the birth date.

Another blissfully boring doctor’s appointment took place today in this week’s episode of Let’s Make a Baby. There was no weight gain this week, and blood pressure was down to 130/72. Fundal measurement is up another centimeter, just like it has been for the last little bit. Lindsey is still consistently measuring a little bit big, and made nice at the doctor as he did a quick ultrasound to check heart rate and amniotic fluid (he pronounced it “not too much, not too little”). She is, as Dr. Parsons put it, “in launch position” with head still down and spine almost exactly aligned with my midline. Aside from the Strep-B test (a vaginal/rectal swab) there was nothing remarkable. We go back next week for more of the same.
Oh, and about the picture… please be kind. I’m a lil emotional. It was a self-portrait I took on a timer with my new camera (which I still love).

This is not a baby. That is a toddler.
This can’t POSSIBLY work. I mean, I’ve done it before, more than once… but still I say – look at the straw-thin cervix. Now look at the grapefruit-sized baby head.
Straw.
Grapefruit.
…
Maybe I’m going to start calling Lindsey “fresh-squeezed.”

I don’t give a sh*t WHAT Babycenter says, this kid has got an entire PlayLand of room in there, and she intends to make full and complete use of it. At the moment, she’s practicing walking (upside-down) on the balance beam. A moment ago, she was working the pummel horse, and before that, it was the rings.
It. F*cking. Hurts. She’s a BIG baby, and when she moves, I feel it. Apparently it isn’t enough that I have constant heartburn (who ever heard of ICE CREAM HEARTBURN???), or that my bladder is roughly the size of a shot glass, or that I forget what I’m talking about in the MIDDLE OF A WORD. Oh, no. Those joys are not enough. My darling little girl must make hourly rearrangements of my vital organs. I can just hear her in there. “Who left this kidney here?...

Thursday I took Mary up to her first class at Picture Pages. The original plan had been to have her class at another store, but they canceled on her at the last minute because she was the only enrollee. Grrrr. Anyway, along the way we stopped for dinner at The Golden Corral and for a tiny bit of shopping at Wal-Mart.
It’s always a lot of fun to hang out with Mary. She’s funny and smart, and we share absolutely NO similarity in our choice of eye candy, so we’re always watching different people. Still, I can tell we’re getting close to “go” time with this baby, because ten minutes of walking in Wal-Mart about wore my ass out. Were those aisles always so LONG??
Mary seemed to enjoy her class, even if some of the people involved (including the teacher) were a little too serious about scrapbooking for her taste. She finished with a really cute layout, though...

I have been blessed with this pregnancy (major knocking on solid wood) – we’ve had no complications to speak of, Lindsey is still fine as wine with lots of room to wiggle around in, a nice healthy heartrate, and plenty of amniotic fluid. My weight gain has been surprisingly low (at my OB appointment on Thursday it was up 3 pounds for the last 2 weeks), blood pressure is well in hand (132/72, at last count), no edema or cramping or spotting. I’m still usually pretty comfortable in this body, even though it’s kind of a duplex situation right now. Of course, the worst is before me in that regard. Still, I have been a very, very lucky pregnant woman this go-round. Thank the good Lord.
The fact that this is probably our last baby has made me a little more philosophical than usual. I continue to marvel at the fact that each of my babies is so very different, even while inside. Adam moved some, but was reasonably placid while in utero. He’s still ...

We had another obstetrician visit yesterday. Blood pressure was 142/80, and everything else was normal. We had another ultrasound, and she still looks like a “she.” The doctor didn’t do any measurements on the baby, other than fundal height and heart rate, but I got some more looks at her face, hands, feet, ribs, and other assorted body parts.
We also got flu shots for everybody. Or, rather, we thought we did. Thomas was accidentally given a tetanus booster, poor baby, so he will have to go back for another flu shot.
Other than that, we just go back in two weeks for another checkup. Guess that means we’re entering the homestretch!

I hate the two weeks immediately following EVERY Mall Crawl, so it’s not like this will be at all unusual.
We had a great Thanksgiving with our friends. It was nice to have a big Thanksgiving dinner, without suffering through two weeks of leftovers. We had a wonderful visit, with lots of time for games and chatting and just hanging out. They left the day after Thanksgiving, and are sorely missed!
