Mike has a herniated disk. He’s discussed it here and here. He’s talked about what the injury has done to his body, but not the impact it’s had on the family.
There was a time when I would have dumped my every thought out on the Internet. It was freeing and cleansing. Like Mike, writing about things helps me to cope with them. But I’m not so reckless anymore. Once you put it on the Internet, it’s forever, and some of my thoughts are not really helpful right now.
Suffice to say, what we’re going through is in the top 2 most challenging times our family has ever had. I expect that, in time, we will recover and heal from this – our bodies, and our relationships – but it will take time.

You know how people always tell you that you have to accept people for what they are? That you can’t change them? Well, that’s crap. People do change, and that change is influenced by the people around them. Think about it – weren’t you changed by some of the relationships you’ve held? I know I have. And I know I’ve influenced people in my life, too.
An example: when I met him online, Mike was a confirmed non-breeder. The man was simply NOT going to have children. Period. Now we have four. Now he is a father, and really good at it.
Some changes are big, and some are small. Some people are more “moldable” than others. But people absolutely do influence each other. That isn’t to say I think girls should go into a relationship with some big asshole and expect to turn him into a prince. But can you encourage him to put the toilet seat down or enjoy the rodeo? Sure. Maybe.

Today marks nine six years of wedded bliss for Harvey and his beloved bride, Smiling Dynamite. May the love you feel for one another continue to grow and deepen, may you forever find hope and promise in one another’s company, and may you always find passion and fulfillment in one another’s arms.

The longer I live, and the more people I meet, the more I become convinced that when it comes to disputes – especially marital disputes – there are always, always three sides to every story: his side, her side, and the truth. Unfortunately, it’s that third side that no one ever hears.

Margi decided to play “The Interview Game” that’s been going around, and she answered some questions posed to her by Jim. She then invited others to be interviewed, and I hopped on board. My answers to HER questions asked of me (all of which, she warns, are Harv Bait) are below, and now it’s my turn to interview others. So, first, the rules:
Leave me a comment saying “interview me”. The first five commenters will be the participants. I will respond by asking you five questions. You will update your blog/site with the answers to the questions. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. (Write your own questions or borrow some.)
Okley-dokley, now on with the answeravatin’.

SexyHusband doesn’t dance. Doesn’t like it, doesn’t miss it. But for me, he agreed to a “First Dance” at our wedding. I even got to pick the song! I chose I Do by Mark Wills. The words are as true today as they were almost six years ago. I love you, baby.

All I am, all I’ll be
Everything in this world, all that I’ll ever need
Is in your eyes, shining at me
When you smile I can feel all my passion unfolding
Your hand brushes mine
And a thousand sensations seduce me ‘cause I
I do, cherish you.
For the rest of my life
You don’t have to think twice.
I will, love you still, from the depths of my soul
It’s beyond my control.
I’ve waited so long to say this to you

Let it be hereby known that I have the most amazing husband in the whole, wide world. No offense intended to any of my married male readers, but SexyHusband is just TheShit™. He keeps me loved, happy, healthy, and cared for in every way, and he is – hands down – the greatest father who ever lived.
I know I come across as a cynical, complaining bitch much of the time (but only because I am), so I don’t want to let the good times go by unremarked. I have a friend going through a very, very rough time right now, and her misery has helped bring home to me just how blessed I am.
Mike, I love you.

A budding romance between a Jordanian man and woman turned into an ugly public divorce when the couple found out that they were in fact man and wife, state media reported.
Separated for several months, boredom and chance briefly re-united Bakr Melhem and his wife Sanaa in an Internet chat room, the official Petra news agency said.

Upon seeing Sanaa-alias-Jamila, Bakr-alias-Adnan turned white and screamed at the top of his lungs: “You are divorced, divorced, divorced” – the traditional manner of officially ending a marriage in Islam.

Yesterday was our first anniversary. A whole year, can you believe it? It has just flown by. I guess that’s a good thing. If you’re wondering, we’re still as blissfully happy and giddy and in love as we were in the beginning. (I started to type “as we were last year”, but it extended farther back than a year, as you know if you’ve been reading for that long.) Interesting observation – whenever anyone finds out it’s your anniversary, or that it’s coming up, they always ask the same question, namely, “What are you doing for your anniversary?” Now, without being completely indelicate here, do you suppose people really want the true answer to that question? I mean, sure they’re expecting you to say something like, “We’re going to eat out and go visit one of our favorite places” or something equally sappy, but what if that’s not what you’re going to do. I mean, suppose, just for...

Today is our anniversary! If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read the diary entry for exactly one year ago today. We don’t have any plans – just staying home and being together. Mike’s still under deadlines, so he’ll be writing. I finally have most of my energy back, so I’ll be quilting. We’ll probably share a nice dinner together alone, maybe a bottle of fake-pagne, and just relax. It will be nice to just be home for awhile.
Friday, I drove up to Post Falls, Idaho and Spokane to empty my craft booth and run some errands (wrote about that earlier – just stay with me). Saturday I didn’t feel good so I stayed home. Sunday I went into Colfax to work my last day at the quilt shop (mentioned that before, too). Monday we went into Colfax again for baby school. I know I promised to tell you about it, but there’s not much to tell. Someone asked me what I l...

May 21 was my bridal shower. Lots of family and friends came, and my bridesmaids – Nancy, Julie, and Donna – hosted it for me. It was GORGEOUS. Decorations everywhere, balloons, confetti, tons of food from Jason’s Deli, and the most beautiful shower cake ever! I was given some very lovely gifts from everyone (for which we’re very, very grateful), we played party games, and everyone made fun of me for becoming “Old Mrs. MacDonald”.
May 22 was the rehearsal. Everyone was there except 2 of my bridesmaids. We held it at Lake Ray Hubbard park in Rowlett. Rehearsal itself only took about 20 minutes, then we went to have dinner at a barbeque place up the highway. Since there were so many of us we had to wait awhile to be seated (dumb Dana didn’t make a reservation for SATURDAY ...

Well, it’s official! We’re legally married. We even got our marriage license in the mail Monday. I know it’s been a (very, very) long time since we did an update, but we’ve been indescribably busy. Because of.. um.. technical difficulties, there won’t be any new pictures up for a few days, but don’t worry – they’re coming.
We’re back home now, in Endicott. We got in Sunday night and were just amazed at how overgrown everything was. In some places the weeds are hip-deep. We quickly added “lawnmower” to our shopping list. The first thing we did was start unloading the RV. We just brought everything in and dumped it in the middle of the living room floor. We’re slowly going through it as time goes by. We unloaded until we were exhausted, then we came in and slept. Oh, by the way, he did “carry” me over the threshold. Those of you who’ve seen us know that I’m much larger than Mik...

I have an announcement to make!!!! We’re married!!!!! <Major happy dance!!!> No, don’t worry, we’re not forgoing the big shindig I’ve been telling you about for over a month now. But we are Islamically married, which is just as married as the legal thing, at least in our book. :) And speaking of books, part of the requirement of an Islamic wedding is that the husband-to-be has to offer the bride a dowry. Traditionally, this has been something that will help sustain the wife in the unfortunate event that they are divorced (sniff, sniff). So Mike, love of my life, racked his brain for days, and finally came up with the PERFECT solution… books!!! Books about living in the country, to be exact. LOTS of books. To see the full listing, click here (this link no longer available).
Oh, yeah… and Mike’s been haggling with the caterers about our reception… more on that when it...

Well, we’re finally in process of putting up a website that will actually TELL you something about our plans. For those of you who don’t know, ffmike (Mike Gunderloy) and britneyj (Dana Jones) are engaged (blush-blush, smile-smile, and all that goopy stuff). We’re set to be married on May 23rd at 11AM at the Camp Estate in the Dallas Arboretum, amidst our friends and family (woohoooo). We just TODAY secured the site, so we’re pretty happy about that.
OK, I KNOW the look and feel of this page is horrid; please bear with us – we’re trying to fix it just as fast as we can (FrontPage, HERE WE COME!!!)
Stay tuned for more from…. as the calendar pages turn…. (ok, that was corny, but it’s late and it’s the best I could come up with on such short notice).
